Find Hamilton County Booking Photos

Hamilton County jail mugshots appear as booking photos on the county's adult current-inmates roster when a person is listed in jail custody. To find Hamilton County booking photos, search the jail roster, open the inmate profile, and read the photo together with booking, bond, court, and charge fields. A roster photo is not a conviction record. Photo access can also depend on whether the person is still listed, whether a record is held by the sheriff, and whether court sealing or expungement rules apply.

Hamilton County Jail Mugshots

Hamilton County publishes booking photos in the official adult current-inmates portal maintained through the sheriff's jail records process. Sheriff Dennis Quakenbush leads the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, and the jail division supplies the adult roster used for public photo searches. The results grid has a Photo column, and each detail profile has a Photos section with a larger booking photo and timestamp link. The inspected sample showed one photo link on the profile. No separate official Hamilton County recent-bookings mugshot gallery or daily booking-report PDF with a mugshot gallery was found in the county source set.

The practical rule is simple: use the county current-inmates portal for current adult jail booking photos, then use Sheriff's Records when a photo is not online or when the person was released, transferred, or is not returned by the current roster search. The adult roster does not cover juvenile detention records, community corrections participants as ordinary jail inmates, state prison custody after IDOC transfer, federal prison custody, or ICE detainee location records.

What is and is not public: Hamilton County publishes current roster booking photos online, but Indiana law still allows limits for investigatory records, sealed records, expunged records, juvenile matters, and records not held in the county jail portal.

Hamilton County Booking Photo Locations

The official roster is the only Hamilton County source found that displays adult jail booking photos as a public search feature. The county's Daily Incidents link is not the same as a mugshot gallery. The search form defaults to current custody through the In Custody checkbox, but it also has booking date fields and a housing-facility option for inmates turned over to other agencies.

The county's Lookup Current Inmates landing page introduces the roster and includes the public-records disclaimer and local bond scam warning.

Request Hamilton County Booking Photos

The fastest route is the roster when the person is a current adult jail inmate. A records request is the fallback when the photo is no longer online, when the roster search does not return the person, or when the request is for a specific booking record rather than a live custody profile. Include enough detail for Sheriff's Records to identify the booking without asking the office to guess.

  1. Open the Hamilton County current-inmates portal and search by name, subject number, booking number, or booking date range.
  2. Leave In Custody checked for current jail custody, or broaden the facility field if a transfer is possible.
  3. Open the linked name in results and review the Photos section on the inmate profile.
  4. If the photo is not online, contact Sheriff's Records by email at sheriff.records@hamiltoncounty.in.gov or fax at 317-776-9835.
  5. Give the person's full name, date of birth if known, approximate booking date, booking number or subject number if known, and state that the request is for a booking photo.
  6. If the request concerns a criminal case report, remember the sheriff's records page says summary reports are available to victims and other criminal reports are available by subpoena only.

Call the jail at 317-776-9800 for immediate custody questions, booking lag, or identity confusion. Use MyCase and the Clerk for formal court records after an arrest, not for the booking photo itself.

Hamilton County Mugshot Profile Fields

A booking photo should be read with the rest of the inmate profile. The photo confirms that the roster has an image tied to the booking record, but the surrounding fields explain why the person is listed, when the booking occurred, whether bond is posted, what court rows are shown, and whether charge rows have dispositions or blank fields.

The inspected Hamilton County sample inmate profile shows how a booking photo is presented alongside demographics, booking history, bonds, court dates, and charges.

The profile context is important because a mugshot by itself does not show whether the case is pending, dismissed, amended, reduced, or resolved.

Indiana Mugshot Public Access

Indiana public access starts with the Access to Public Records Act. IC 5-14-3-3 gives any person the right to inspect and copy disclosable public records during regular business hours unless an exemption applies. IC 5-14-3-5 requires availability of certain arrest, summons, jail, lock-up, and daily-log information. Those rules support access to basic jail and booking information.

Mugshots need more careful wording. IC 5-14-3-4(b)(1) allows law enforcement to withhold investigatory records at agency discretion, and Indiana Public Access Counselor guidance links booking photos to that investigatory-record issue. Hamilton County's actual practice is the strongest local fact: current adult jail booking photos are published in the official roster. That does not mean every mugshot in every context must always be released.

Statute callout: IC 5-14-3-5 supports public access to basic arrest and jail information, while IC 5-14-3-4(b)(1) can affect investigatory law-enforcement records, including some photo requests.

Hamilton County Photo Retention

Hamilton County does not publish a public retention rule for how long roster mugshots stay online. The default search view focuses on current custody, and the roster includes an In Custody checkbox. Booking date range fields and the facility option for inmates turned over to other agencies suggest some broader searches may be possible, but the county does not state a fixed photo drop-off period.

Do not treat a missing mugshot as proof that no arrest happened, that a case was dismissed, or that the person was never in custody. The person may have been released, transferred, entered into another custody system, recorded under a different spelling, or omitted from the current public view. For formal case status, use court records after a Hamilton County jail arrest and compare the court docket with the jail record.

Note: A scheduled release date can be blank in roster results, and blank fields should not be read as final legal outcomes.

Hamilton County Mugshot Requests

Sheriff's Records is the official local fallback for booking-photo requests that are not solved by the public roster. The records page lists a records email, fax channel, office hours, case-report limits, crash-report instructions, warrant verification, and background-check process. It does not list a standalone single-mugshot fee or a separate jail roster printout fee.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Records page documents the email and fax request channels used when the online roster does not answer a booking-record question.

Records staff may need the booking date, subject number, booking number, or other identifiers because common names can return the wrong inmate record.

Hamilton County Mugshot Removal

Hamilton County did not publish a roster-photo removal policy for dismissals, acquittals, or expungements in the reviewed sources. The official route for reducing public access to qualifying adult criminal records is the Indiana court sealing or expungement process under IC 35-38-9. After an order is entered, the relevant court and agency records custodians process the order according to law and office procedure.

A dismissal or acquittal does not automatically prove that every online photo has been removed. An expungement or sealing order does not erase every third-party copy from the internet. Commercial mugshot publishing and paid removal demands are outside official Hamilton County records channels and should not be treated as a substitute for a court order or sheriff records request.

State Federal ICE Photos

The Hamilton County jail roster is not the image source for every custody type. The Indiana Department of Correction locator is for sentenced state correctional custody after transfer and uses DOC numbers, facility locations, sentence fields, and projected release data. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present and returns name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. ICE ODLS locates adult immigration detainees or people in CBP custody for more than 48 hours.

No BOP prison or ICE detention center was identified in Hamilton County. The county jail can still matter because it may hold USMS pretrial detainees and Hamilton County has a 2025 287(g) Jail Enforcement Model agreement, but those facts do not create a separate public federal mugshot database.
